Pisa coach Pippo Inzaghi feels that his brother Simone Inzaghi “made the 3-5-2 shape spectacular” at Inter Milan.

The former striker had words of big praise for the Nerazzurri in an interview in today’s print edition of the Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has virtually always stuck with a 3-5-2 formation.

That has been the case both at the Nerazzurri, and when he was the coach of Lazio.

On paper, this is the same formation that a lot of Italian coaches have gone with. These have included Antonio Conte, Walter Mazzarri, and Max Allegri.

However, the intention behind Inzaghi’s use of the formation seems to be dramatically different than that of almost all other coaches who utilize a 3-5-2 shape.

The 49-year-old looks to play a more proactive and high-tempo style of play with the 3-5-2 formation. Particularly in league matches.

Inter also have far more political fluidity within their shape than most other teams that play with the same formation.

The Nerazzurri players, and in particular the defenders, are free to move around, move forward, and aggressively occupy vacant spaces in the opposition defensive line.

Simone Inzaghi’s brother, legendary former striker Pippo Inzaghi, commented that “I’m very happy for my brother.”

“He’s getting the success that he deserves. Two European finals in the space of three editions of the competition is an incredible feat.”

Pippo added that “success over PSG would be a consecration of his success.”

Meanwhile, Pippo gave his thoughts on what Simone’s strengths as a coach are. He named “serious, dedication to his work, and the empathy he has with his players.”

“He made the 3-5-2 shape, traditionally considered a defensive formation, transform into a spectacular module.”

Pippo continued that “watching Inter player over the last few years has been beautiful.”

“In Italy we’re cagey,” the Pisa coach said. “We often just wait to see if our opponent makes a mistake, so that we can attack them.”

“But he’s made the 3-5-2 module a reference point for all his colleagues,” Pippo said of Simone.
