Newcastle United, as measured up against all the other Premier League teams.
How do we gauge it?
Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning!
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
We are now six months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of 9 February 2025):
22 and 2 Liverpool
20 and 7 Newcastle United
15 and 6 Forest
15 and 8 Man City
14 and 7 Chelsea
13 and 6 Bournemouth
12 and 7 Fulham
12 and 8 Villa
12 and 8 Brighton
12 and 11 Man U
12 and 14 Tottenham
11 and 9 Palace
10 and 13 Brentford
8 and 11 Everton
8 and 13 West Ham
7 and 16 Wolves
7 and 17 Leicester
6 and 21 Southampton
4 and 16 Ipswich
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches.
It is still only Liverpool who have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side, only the two more than NUFC as things currently stand.
Newcastle this week now extending it to three more wins than Arsenal after United wins on Wednesday (against Arsenal, yet again!) and Birmingham on Saturday.
Then it is Newcastle with five more wins than Forest and Man City, six more than Chelsea and so on.
Not so long ago , some Newcastle United fans had been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…
The media (and some Newcastle fans) still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last twenty one United matches (all competitions) over the course of fifteen weeks, have seen fifteen wins, two draws and only the four defeats since October.
