The Toffees have now won their past three games under Moyes, the latest coming against Leicester City this weekend. It was a big victory in the relegation battle, lifting Everton nine points clear of the bottom three.
Iliman Ndiaye is one player to have massively benefitted from Moyes’ return to Goodison Park. The forward has scored in each of his past three Premier League appearances for Everton. He’s the first Everton player to achieve such a feat since Demarai Gray in September 2021.
Ndiaye is one of three Everton players in this week’s Squawka Premier League Team of the Week. Everton are joined in having three players in the team by Nottingham Forest, after their massive win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
We’ve used our Squawka Score to determine the 11 picks, based on the statistical leaders for metrics relevant to their positions. And as ever, we’ve thrown an honourable mention XI for good measure.
Liverpool kept their lead at the top of the table with an impressive win over Bournemouth, who were in good form. The Reds kept a clean sheet at the Vitality Stadium, with Alisson making four saves. But they weren’t just four saves, Alisson prevented 0.78 goals, the second-most of any goalkeeper at the weekend. The Brazilian also completed 10 long passes, with 52.63% accuracy.
Honourable mention: Antonin Kinsky (80%)
Crystal Palace left Old Trafford with an impressive 0-2 win over Manchester United on Sunday. And Daniel Munoz was in good form as their right-wing-back. The 28-year-old recorded an intentional assist in setting up Jean-Philippe Mateta’s second goal in the dying stages. He created one big chance and had two touches in the opposition box. Munoz was even better defensively, winning possession five times in the defensive third and winning two tackles as Palace kept their clean sheet.
Honourable mention: Jake O’Brien (65%)
Everton were solid defensively against Leicester, restricting the Foxes to just one shot on target in their win. Leading their defence was James Tarkowski, who also recorded an assist for Beto to make it 2-0. The Englishman made a whopping 10 clearances to protect his goal, as well as blocking two shots. Tarkowski also won all three of his aerial duels.
Honourable mention: Murillo (69%)
Another impressive defensive display this weekend came for Wolverhampton Wanderers as they beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Molineux. Toti Gomes was Wolves’ top-scoring centre-back, the second-best across the Premier League. Supporting Rayan Ait-Nouri, he won two tackles and made four clearances, while also making two interceptions retaining possession. Gomes also won possession four times in the defensive and middle thirds.
Honourable mention: Matt Doherty (69%)
LB: Neco Williams (Nottingham Forest)
Neco Williams was one of Nottingham Forest’s goalscorers in their 7-0 thrashing of Brighton, netting their sixth goal. The Welshman had three touches in the opposition box, but this was more about his defensive performance. Williams won four tackles, made one interception retaining possession and won possession three times in the defensive third. He’s been one of Nottingham Forest’s best players this season.
Honourable mention: Vitalii Mykolenko (70%)
After starting the season at right-back, before injury, James Garner was making his return to midfield for Everton. And he was excellent against Leicester. The 23-year-old helped to protect the defence with one interception retaining possession, one tackle won and two aerial duels won. Garner also made eight ball recoveries and won possession five time in the middle third. But his biggest contribution was an assist for Beto’s second goal, one of two big chances he created.
Honourable mention: Ryan Gravenberch (77%)
Nottingham Forest’s win over Brighton saw them play a slightly different system, with Morgan Gibbs-White playing a bit deeper. But he was just as effective. The Englishman scored for Forest and completed two take-ons, but he was also excellent defensively. Gibbs-White won three tackles, possession three times in the middle third and won eight duels overall. He also won a penalty, influencing the game in every way possible.
Honourable mention: Declan Rice (76%)
Ipswich Town may have lost to Southampton at the weekend, but things were still level when Jens Cajuste came off. During his 77 minutes on the pitch, Cajuste won two tackles and made one interception retaining possession, alongside two aerial duels won. He also had an impressive retention rate of 94.74% and completed 97.3% of his passes from open play.
Honourable mention: Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (75%)
Mo Salah was the architect of Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth on Saturday, scoring both of the Reds’ goals. The first was a penalty, the second a good curling effort. Without the penalty, Salah still posted an Expected Goals tally of 0.9, proving a real threat. He had three shots on target in total and 11 touches in the opposition box. Salah also created two chances and had 13 final third passes completed.
Honourable mention: Jacob Murphy (73%)
Of course it was going to be Chris Wood. The New Zealand striker spearheaded the Nottingham Forest attack and scored a hat-trick, including one penalty. Wood hit the target with all four of his shots, boasting 1.92 non-penalty xG on Target and five touches in the opposition box. He also won three aerial duels, and had 0.5 xG from headers alone.
Honourable mention: Liam Delap (80%)
Iliman Ndiaye was a menace for Everton in their win over Leicester, completing all four of his attempted take-ons. He also had six touches in the opposition box, created two chances and completed nine final third passes. And, of course, Ndiaye scored Everton’s fourth in the 90th minute to cap off a quality performance.
