The international break is upon us with many PSG players already honouring their international duties with their respective nations. Many could see this break as a perfect opportunity for some players to rest even a little bit ahead of the most important stretch of the season.
Following their probant 3-1 victory against their rivals, Olympique de Marseille in the Classique, Luis Enrique's side holds a 19-point lead at the top of the league, which almost guarantees a record-extending 13th Ligue 1 title for Les Parisiens. Furthermore, the French champions are currently unbeaten in the league across 26 games.
In those 26 encounters, Paris Saint-Germain came out victorious 21 times while sharing points with their opponents on five occasions. This perfect track record is mostly due to Luis Enrique's management, as his rotations seem perfect, allowing his squad to compete simultaneously in multiple competitions, while avoiding key players injuries.
With only eight games remaining in the league, Paris have the chance to write history and finish this 2024-2025 Ligue campaign unbeaten, a feat never realised in the history of the league.
A week ago, Paris Saint-Germain eliminated Arne Slot's Liverpool out of the Champions League. A memorable fit considering that the Premier League's leaders were one of the most dominant team in Europe. Understandably, the Parisians became one of the top contenders of the competition alongside Lamine Yamal's Barcelona, Kylian Mbappé's Real Madrid and Harry Kane's Bayern Munich.
Under Luis Enrique's command, this PSG side never seemed that strong while playing a fantastic branded football. The club had delivered many heartbreaking exit to their fans over the years but the victory over Liverpool at Anfield showcased the new mentality within the team, a spirit that the club may have lacked in the past and that is necessary to win this competition.
Their next step will be to get past Unai Emery's Aston Villa to reach the semifinal and to keep writing history in Europe.
Paris have the opportunity to write French football history and be the first french club to win a treble. To do so they will need to validate their Ligue 1 title in the upcoming weeks and avoid any surprise in the Coupe de France against Ligue 2 side Dunkerque in the semi-finals of the cup, which seems completely in the grasp of this squad.
The most difficult part of course, will be to win the Champions League but this side has all the qualities to do so if they keep avoiding key players injuries as they so far this season.
