Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson has said that Don Robertson missed a red card check during the Glasgow Derby during the week. Celtic were beaten at Ibrox but Wilson believes that Rangers should have been reduced to ten men at the end of the first half after Nicolas Kühn was caught by an elbow from Jefte.

Speaking to Open Goal, Wilson stated that he believed that it was a red card after Jefte threw his arm at the Celtic winger’s face, leaving him to receive treatment on the pitch.

“I’ve got to say, that was as blatant a red card as you’ll see.

Rangers fans welcome team onto pitch with massive tifo ahead of Celtic New Year clash “Was there proper force behind it? How can it not be if it bursts his nose.

“I think if you’re booking him for that and thinking it’s not accidental… I think it’s a red card all day long.”

The ex-Celtic and Dundee United defender said that the replays on Sky confirmed to him that it should have been a sending off after initially thinking it was accidental.

“I said it right at the time. We watched a replay from a different angle and I thought, ‘Right maybe he’s not meant it’,” he said.

“Then you see it from behind the goal and I thought, ‘Jeez, that’s a red card all day long’.

“I can’t believe [Don Robertson] never got called over to look at it.”

The officials were no doubt wary about giving a decision against Rangers after they ramped up the rhetoric against officials after Celtic won the Premier Sports League Cup back in December. Celtic were second best throughout the contest and did not offer much but it was a decision that you had expected a longer look from the VAR team at Clydesdale House.

The KMI team cleared the incident stating that the referee’s decision was correct. Although, given the knock that Kühn took, Wilson is right to try shine a light on the failure by officials to have a second look at it. It was clear that Jefte was trying to catch Kühn at the start of their duel, attempting to throw himself into him and then catching him with his arm. It formed a pattern of the Rangers team attempting to get at Celtic players throughout the afternoon.
