The R's are searching for a new boss, with Marti Cifuentes still on gardening leave
Queens Park Rangers have reportedly held talks with former Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup about becoming their new manager, per a report from The Telegraph.
Whilst QPR still haven't technically sacked Marti Cifuentes, placing the 42-year-old on gardening leave means that the club have taken his managerial duties away whilst still holding his contract, so a club can come in and pay compensation for his services.
Therefore, the Hoops will be looking elsewhere to bring in a new head coach, and it seems that the ex-Norwich City man may be on the shortlist.
According to John Percy of The Telegraph, Johannes Hoff Thorup has held talks with Queens Park Rangers over the prospect of becoming their new manager.
The Canaries sacked the 36-year-old after suffering six defeats in his last eight games at Carrow Road, with new sporting director Ben Knapper believing that, despite the appointment being made with a long-term focus in mind, a less-than-ideal record as Norwich boss which saw the club win just 14 of his 47 games in charge meant that a change was necessary.
The Telegraph reports that Norwich are looking at interviewing former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders, but it also seems that Thorup himself is showing interest in getting back into management immediately, too.
QPR finished just one point and two places below Norwich City in the Championship this season, but the R's feel that Thorup could be the man to take them higher up the table after a third consecutive finish in the bottom half of the second tier.
Despite boasting a win percentage of less than 30% in just under a year as Norwich City boss, there were still positives to take from Thorup's time as Canaries boss, which goes to show why clubs such as QPR are interested in seeing him return to management less than a month on from his sacking.
Norwich ended the season as the second-highest goalscorers in the Championship, a record bettered only by Leeds United, and it's this exciting brand of football which will get clubs interested in bringing him in.
Additionally, Thorup was brought in by Norwich with long-term goals in mind, despite the club just coming out of a play-off campaign, but was sacked less than a year later. The 36-year-old has a clear focus on youth development and has an ethos which makes him a desirable head coach at Championship level.
If QPR do make him their new manager, they'll be hoping that the leaky defence which Thorup oversaw during his time at Carrow Road was a player issue, rather than a tactical one.
Thorup will be looking to put his time at Norwich in the past and prove himself as a competent Championship coach sooner rather than later. Coming to a club which will allow him time to do so, whether that's QPR or elsewhere, will be key for the Dane this summer.
