Rangers’ medical department bungles again amid new injury farce

Rangers’ entire football department is under heavy fire today after yet another farcical error led to the most embarrassing outcome.

We are of course on an international break, but that hasn’t stopped Rangers’ medical/logistics completely screwing up as per usual by consenting to an injured player being called up for his country’s camp.

Ross McCausland, who Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill is fuming about, had to withdraw from the call up after it was confirmed by his international manager he’s injured.

He said:

“We have two that will miss out, Ross McCausland came into camp with a foot injury, and we felt the best thing was to send him back to his club.”

So, McCausland was already injured, and for some reason Rangers’ medical staff thought it a wise move to allow him to travel over the Irish sea and hook up with his national side.

Here’s what the club statement said about his call up:

“Ross McCausland – Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland v Belarus – UEFA Nations League – Friday, November 15 – kick-off 7.45pm

Luxembourg v Northern Ireland – UEFA Nations League – Monday, November 18 – kick-off 7.45pm

Ross will be away with Northern Ireland this week as they round-off their UEFA Nations League group. Northern Ireland sit top of Group C3 heading into the final two matches. It’s a big game on Friday evening as they host second-place Belarus at Windsor Park before they travel to Luxembourg on Monday evening.”

All the while, the medical staff knew there was a problem with his foot, and still allowed him to travel?

Now, we’re not quite sure on the rules here, whether the player can just go for a call up regardless of club advice and counsel, but we suspect that the organisation who pays the wages gets the final say.

Why McCausland was allowed to travel while injured, we would say ‘we will never know’ but with this Rangers regime, anything is possible.

This incompetence probably explains a lot of Rangers’ general injury issues – bad decisions and bad management.
