According to De Telegraaf, Senegalese defender Nobel Mendy seems to be PSV’s first reinforcement for the new season. Echoing Southern European sources, the 20-year-old defender’s transfer could be completed soon.
Mendy is still under contract with the Conference League finalists Real Betis until the summer of 2027. An amount of around 4 million euros has been mentioned for the physically strong centre-back’s transfer.
Mendy is a left-footed central defender who can also play as a left-back. The Senegalese, who also has a passport from Guinea-Bissau, moved from Paris FC to Real Betis in 2023. He has only played six times for the Spanish club, but PSV seem to see him as a player with great potential for the future.
With the departure of Olivier Boscagli, Richard Ledezma, and Rick Karsdorp, PSV urgently require defensive reinforcements. While Meney’s move keeps an eye to the future, a more experienced successor for Boscagli is also in Peter Bosz’s sights.
PSV are active on the transfer market on several fronts. For example, technical director Earnest Stewart is busy trying to attract two new goalkeepers. Sparta goalkeeper Nick Olij has already received an offer from the national champions.
The North Hollander has a clause with a fixed buyout fee of around 3 million euros in his contract. PSV don’t not have to negotiate with Sparta, and his arrival can be finalised quickly.
In addition, The Eindhoven club are working with Israeli Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, who can be taken in on loan. PSV are aiming for two new goalkeepers, because in addition to Walter Benitez, who is leaving on a free transfer, reserve goalkeeper Joël Drommel is also expected to leave after three seasons on the bench.
