The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid refused to sanction the early arrival of two members of the club’s first-team ranks at their international camps late this week.

That’s according to France national team head coach Didier Deschamps, who points towards Kylian Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni as the pair in question.

Both frontman Mbappé and midfielder Tchouaméni, as expected, were afforded call-ups to France’s latest squad late last month.

This comes ahed of an upcoming Nations League semi-final showdown with European champions Spain.

Les Bleus’ coaching staff were hopeful of the pair linking up with their international teammates on Friday, to secure extra time to settle into the camp and begin preparations to face Spain.

As confirmed by Didier Deschamps on Sunday, however, the Real Madrid board ultimately stuck to their guns, not allowing either Mbappé or Tchouaméni to join the French ranks until it is required on Monday:

“Kylian and Aurélien arrive on Monday at noon, and the seven players who will play in the Champions League final arrive on Monday evening. Honestly, both players wanted to come this Friday. But they (Real Madrid) are sticking to the rules and the FIFA date is June 2. I’m not going to put the players in a difficult position with their club. Kylian, as captain, wanted to be back with the group , but that’s how things are.”
