It is only a matter of time before Xabi Alonso formally joins Real Madrid as the new head coach.

After a successful stint at Bayer Leverkusen, the Spanish tactician is set to lead the Real Madrid project next season, starting with the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite not being announced as the new coach, Alonso has already started demanding changes within the Real Madrid squad.

One of the Spaniard’s key focus areas will be to beef up the ranks in the youth department and mirror Barcelona’s success, as far as nurturing academy talents is concerned.

Joan Martinez to be a part of first-team

Keeping that in mind, a recent report from AS (h/t Madrid Zone) suggests Joan Martinez will become a part of the Real Madrid first-team next season, under the leadership of Alonso.

It is no secret that Alonso has been keeping tabs on the Real Madrid youth academy ever since he reached an agreement with the club.

Alonso wants to yield as much as benefit from the club’s youth prospects as he can and to that end, Martinez will be one of his top bets.

The report adds that Martinez, who missed out on action this season due to a long-term injury, is considered a generational talent within the Real Madrid camp.

Alonso, therefore, might look to give the young Spanish prodigy his big breakthrough in the coming season.

With Real Madrid on the verge of signing Dean Huijsen, the defensive combo of Huijsen, Raul Asencio and Martinez could form new front of the Real Madrid defence.

While Eder Militao will lead the defence in the years to come, the onus will be on these three youngsters to step up and build a solid partnership with the Brazilian international.
