Real Madrid’s full-back positions are growing into matters of serious concern and the developments so far this season have not helped.
Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury left the right-back department exposed and Lucas Vazquez’ blow against Osasuna has the team without any options in the position.
At left-back, meanwhile, it is not a question of the quantity of resources but the quality. Los Blancos are looking for an upgrade from Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies is seen as the target.
Amidst the uncertainty over both full-back positions and the defence in general, Real Madrid’s homegrown star Miguel Gutierrez emerged as a serious option following his success at Girona, but the tables now appear to have turned.
As revealed in a recent update by MARCA, Real Madrid are no longer considering utilising their buyback clause on Gutierrez who is currently shining at Girona.

The 23-year-old has established himself as a regular starter for Michel’s side and already has 12 appearances to this name this season with one goal and two assists to his name.
Yet, it does not appear that the player has done enough to secure a dream return back to the Spanish capital especially because of the existing bench-strength in the position.
After all, Davies’ signing is considered to be all but done.
Notably, Real Madrid’s option to buy back Gutierrez can be triggered just by paying €8 million. That figure will increase to €9 million and €10 million over the next two seasons respectively.
Furthermore, the Merengues have the option to match the price of any club that makes an offer to sign the young defender and steal the deal.
The player is keen on engineering a return but the current dynamics make it complicated.
