A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is expected to be recalled by his country over the months ahead.
That’s according to The Athletic, who point towards Thibaut Courtois as the player in question.
Goalkeeper Courtois, for his part, has not taken to the pitch in the colours of Belgium since all the way back in the summer of 2023.
Whilst his initial absence came owing to injury, the former Chelsea man announced in August of last year that he had no intention of lining out for the Red Devils so long as Domenico Tedesco remained in charge.
Dismissed from his role last week, though, Tedesco has on Friday officially been replaced.
Ex-Napoli boss Rudi Garcia has been chosen to take up the reins of the Belgian national team.
And, according to The Athletic, the expectation is that Garcia will quickly set about mending fences with Courtois, in a bid to bring the shot-stopper back into the fray:
‘A source close to Garcia has said that he is all for including Courtois in his future Belgium squads.’
