Real Madrid veteran reacts after breaking historic club record – ‘I’m very proud’ | OneFootball

Saturday night was a special occasion for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric as he made history, becoming the oldest player to feature for the club.

Modric broke the record held by Real Madrid legend Ferenc Puskas, writing another chapter in his illustrious career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The captain came onto the pitch against Celta Vigo at Balaidos, at the age of 39 years and 40 days old, beating the record that Puskas had held since 1966.

Speaking to the club media after the game, Modric reflected on his historic achievement, insisting he was proud of the record while joking he did not like being reminded of his age.

“ I don’t like being reminded about my age, but it’s really impressive. I’m very proud to have achieved this record and to continue playing for the best club in the world,” he said.

When asked to name his proudest moment from his time at the club, Modric responded:

“It is very difficult for me to choose just one thing out of all the things that have happened to me at Real Madrid – signing for the club, winning Champions Leagues and La Liga titles and now being the oldest player with the most titles…

“I am happy to have achieved everything with this club, but I have to keep going.”

Concluding, Modric gave an insight into how he was feeling after the win and his achievement, saying:

“I feel good physically and mentally. I am playing and that is what I want. The most important thing is the team and, when it is my turn, I always try to give my best.

“We have to keep going, we have very difficult weeks ahead in La Liga and the Champions League . We have a lot of quality, but that alone is not enough. We have to give more, like today, when we gave everything.”
