Real Madrid are perennially on a mission to upgrade their squad and thus always have an eye on the best players in the world.

Despite likely having two of the top three finishers in the Ballon d’Or race in their ranks, Los Blancos have their eyes on the player who is likely going to be the third – Rodri.

The Manchester City star won both the Premier League and Euro 2024 last season and is one of the best in the world in his position.

Unfortunately, however, he has suffered a season-ending injury and will likely not make any more appearances this term.

Real Madrid keeping an eye

As revealed in a recent update by Give Me Sport, Real Madrid are waiting to discover whether the midfielder would be available for a transfer next summer and would love the chance to sign him if the option pops up.

After all, the men in white have been on the lookout for new midfield stars in recent times and Rodri is one of the primary targets alongside Martin Zubimendi.

Should Florentino Perez and Co. go all out to sign the Spanish superstar, he must be prepared to include a massive financial investment as it will not be easy to lure the player out of Pep Guardiola’s side.

Rodri’s current contract at Etihad runs until 2027 with wages of €220,000-a-week and the Premier League giants are expected to propose an extension to keep him at the club even beyond that duration.

Given the low practical chance of the deal seeing fruition, Real Madrid are said to be pragmatic and are not keeping high hopes over his acquisition. The dream, however, will go on.

In 34 Premier League appearances last season, the 28-year-old scored eight goals and provided nine assists while primarily operating out of the defensive midfield role. Further, he completed 92% of his attempted passes and created eight big chances.
