Aurelien Tchouameni found himself at the receiving end of boos at Santiago Bernabeu last night during Real Madrid’s 3-1 defeat to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

The Frenchman’s performances in recent games have been average after all, and he was even taken off from the field of play at half-time last night after his error led to Milan’s opener.

While many initially assumed the manager’s decision to do directly with his poor performance, it came to light earlier today that the player was injured with a setback bigger than what was rumoured during the game.

Backup needed

Tchouameni’s addition to Real Madrid’s already long injury list only compounds Ancelotti’s troubles. He will now be unavailable for a month, and the manager must find a stop-gap solution.

As revealed by MARCA, Eduardo Camavinga will replace his compatriot in Real Madrid’s upcoming games as the defensive midfielder as he has shown in the past to be an able resource in the department.

The Frenchman will likely be joined by Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde in the midfield and the fourth player could be Luka Modric if the manager deems the 4-4-2 to be the best way forward.

While this is a massive opportunity for Camavinga, it is also a serious test for him given the tricky fixture list that lies ahead for Los Blancos.

Osasuna, the only team to have beaten Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, are up next for the Merengues before the international break.

Once club football returns, they face Leganes and then travel to Anfield where they will take on Liverpool in a massive Champions League fixture.

Camavinga thus must be at the top of his game as Tchouameni is unlikely to make it back in time.
