Chelsea won’t move for a new left back this month if Renato Veiga completes a move to Borussia Dortmund according to The Athletic.
The Blues were expected to be quiet in the window, but those plans appear to have changed given the injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, whilst they are also exploring other possibilities in the market.
Chelsea are pursuing a move for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, and are also to keen to bring in a new centre back, with Marc Guehi said to be their primary target.
It’s not just about incomings and a number of players are expected to leave the club, with Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka both told they can leave.
Cesare Casadei is closing in on a return to Italy, with the Blues also keen to move on Axel Disasi, whilst Christopher Nkunku has agreed terms with Bayern Munich.

One player who wasn’t expected to leave was Veiga, with the 21-year-old only joining in the summer from FC Basel for £12m.
However, Veiga has agreed terms with Borussia Dortmund and wants to join the Bundesliga outfit in order to play more minutes in his preferred centre back position.
Chelsea are said to want up to £29m for Veiga, who is now a Portugal international, although Dortmund are thought to favour a loan with an option to buy.
If the clubs come to an agreement and Veiga does leave, Chelsea would then require back-up for Marc Cucurella at left back.

However, The Athletic have reported a Veiga departure wouldn’t mean a new arrival because Chelsea have Malo Gusto and Reece James who can play at left back if needed.
It’s true that both Gusto and James have filled in at left back this season, but ideally you want a natural left back, and it feels like Chelsea would be taking a huge risk as any injury to Cucurella would have huge consequences for Enzo Maresca’s side over the second half of the campaign.
