FC Barcelona had a summer of significance back in 2022 when Joan Laporta pulled a number of levers to significantly reinforce the squad by signing the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso.

Since then, the club has yet to have a summer like that. 2023 was especially dull, with no major incomings of any sort while this summer, Barcelona managed to secure the signature of Spanish superstar Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig.

Now, a report from SPORT has explained how much Barcelona still owes Bayern Munich for the transfer of Robert Lewandowski back in the summer of 2022. The 36-year-old has been in fine form this season and is leading the European charts in terms of goals scored.

Barcelona agreed to a €50m deal with Bayern to sign the Polish striker who was in the last year of his contract with the German club. Now, as per the report, the Catalan club still owes seven clubs money for the Lewandowski transfer.

The most significant one is obviously Bayern who are owed €10.4m in the short term and €10.6m in the long term. Apart from this, Barcelona also owes Legia Warsaw (€50,000 and €50,000), Lech Poznan (€119,000 and €119,000), Delta Warsaw (€33,000 and €33,000), Znicz (€113,000 and €113,000), MKS Warsaw (€169,000 and €169,000) and Borussia Dortmund (€78,000 and €78,000).

Apart from the chunk of money owed to Bayern Munich, the rest of the amounts are fairly negligent when you consider a club of Barcelona’s magnitude. The amount that the club needs to pay to the German giants is quite significant though.

Until last season, the jury would have been divided on the merit of paying so much money to sign Lewandowski but his performances so far this season have suggested that the 36-year-old has still got it at the highest level.

If Lewandowski can inspire Barcelona to success, especially in the Champions League during his time here, it is safe to say that this can be considered a very successful transfer, and let’s wait and see how his time here develops.
