Lautaro Martinez went to great lengths to help Inter Milan win an unprecedented fourth consecutive Supercoppa Italiana title.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport’s report via FCInterNews states the rest of the team wasn’t up to his second-half level.
El Toro reminded his detractors who he was with a scintillating performance at the King Saud University Stadium last night.
Despite Inter’s gut-wrenching 3-2 defeat, the 27-year-old finally looked like his former self following a torrid spell of form.
Indeed, he opened the scoring late in the first half. Mehdi Taremi delivered an assist, but Martinez still had everything to do.
Yet, he made his markers look silly before finishing with aplomb.
Though Taremi doubled Inter’s lead with only his second goal for the Nerazzurri, Lautaro had no match after the break.
Indeed, he was a thorn in Milan’s side, winning virtually every duel against Sergio Conceicao’s defenders.
Unfortunately, others couldn’t follow his lead.
For context, Federico Dimarco, Denzel Dumfries, Nicolo Barella, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all received ‘6’ or worse.
That perhaps best illustrates Inter’s disjointed performance.
However, Inzaghi’s troops must regroup quickly as they travel to Venezia next Sunday for their first Serie A fixture of 2025.
