Palace confirm transfer deadline day exit for forgotten defender
Crystal Palace have confirmed defender Rob Holding has joined Sheffield United.
Holding will spend the remainder of the season on loan with the Championship outfit having been frozen out of the first-team picture at Selhurst Park.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner revealed last Friday that he was open to letting the central defender before the January transfer window closed and the deal has now been confirmed after the 29-year-old successfully completed a medical earlier in the day.
This move brings an end, albeit temporarily, to a nightmare spell in south London for Holding.
The ex-Arsenal defender arrived at Palace in the summer of 2023, but has only made one senior appearance since then and that came under former manager Roy Hodgson.
In fact, his only action this season has come for the club’s Under-21 side.
A switch to Brammall Lane to play under Chris Wilder should help Holding get his career back on track.
The Blades boss is renowned for deploying a back three formation and the 29-year-old proved on the odd occasion at Arsenal that he can thrive as the central defender in this particular system.
Holding could make his bow in Sheffield United colours this weekend against relegation threatened Portsmouth.
