Last week saw news emerge that Rodri and Erling Haaland had returned to training. That is welcome news for Manchester City as they bid to win the FA Cup and qualify for next season’s Champions League. In the case of Haaland, he sustained an ankle injury during Manchester City’s 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth. In the biggest injury blow City suffered this season Rodri has been out of action due to the ACL injury he sustained against Arsenal at the Etihad in September. There’s no doubt that Rodri’s injury has been the biggest injury blow suffered by Manchester City this season.
Pep Guardiola’s side has only just recovered from the loss of Rodri. Pep Guardiola has implemented a system that floods the midfield and allows his team to control matches. It also makes City harder to play through and gives them strength in the middle of the pitch. That has allowed City to come to life of late and cover the loss of Rodri. But with the tactical shifts Pep Guardiola has implemented you can see where Rodri would fit in this system. On that front positive news has emerged on Rodri’s recovery from injury.
In news that everyone associated with Manchester City has been waiting for since September, footage has emerged of Rodri joining his City teammates in training. The footage was shared by SkySports on the SkySports Premier League X account. The footage can be seen below.
Up next for Manchester City is a Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad. It isn’t clear if Rodri will be available for that upcoming fixture. It would be a major surprise if he was given the serious nature of the injury he is returning from. But the fact he is training with his teammates could be a boost for his teammates ahead of another must-win fixture for his team. An update on Rodri’s condition is expected when Pep Guardiola fronts the media on Thursday. But it is welcome news to finally see Rodri training with his teammates.
