Ruben Amorim to implement tough pre-season schedule at Man United | OneFootball

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly preparing to implement a brutal pre-season regime to whip his team into shape.

The Red Devils have just come off the back of a terrible season where they finished 15th and lost the Europa League final.

So poor was the team’s league form, that they only won eight points from their final ten matches of the season.

To help remedy this, the club have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers but there is much work still left to do in the transfer market.

The Sun report that Amorim has planned a tough schedule to get his players ready to start the new season in the best way possible.

The paper reports that Amorim “is ready to get tough with his Manchester United flops as he chases a flying start next season. The Red Devils boss wants to take a hardline pre-season approach in his quest to turn his ‘chokers’ into Champions League material, with jobs — including his own — on the line.”

The former Sporting CP coach has highlighted a lack of fitness as one of the main reasons that the team has struggled and he is reportedly keen to fix this ahead of the new season.

“It is believed non-international players could return to the club’s Carrington HQ earlier than normal, with a suggestion some may be back training by the end of June.”

The manager reportedly wants his squad in top shape by the middle of July, to really take advantage of rivals’ Manchester City and Chelsea playing in the Club World Cup and having a disrupted pre-season.

Amorim is aiming to keep a tight leash on his squad as he has asked his players where they intend to spend their summer holidays.

A club source explained to the paper that Amorim is fully aware his side needs a top notch pre-season.

It was further explained that “he has to get this right. He’s told the players there are no more excuses. His job is on the line — and so too is theirs. The club can’t accept any more failures.”
