After the defeat to Juventus at the weekend, Arrigo Sacchi has commented on the current aspirations for AC Milan and the need to remain patient.

This season, as a whole, is one to forget for Milanisti. Of course, there have been beautiful moments threaded throughout it, the wins against Real Madrid and the double against Inter. However, the wider picture is bleak.

Milan, for the longest time, have been sup-bar, and their moments of brilliance can be matched with extended spells of frustration. Despite changing head coaches from Paulo Fonseca to Sergio Conceicao, the frustrations remain and the Rossoneri must give the process time.

Rushing things will only halt progress in the long run, so whilst the Diavolo are effectively back to square one, they may have a better base from this position, even if there are going to be bumps on the way.

Today, Sacchi spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the Juventus defeat and the wider picture, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“Juve deserved to win against Milan and the Bianconeri seem to me to be on the rise, it must also be underlined that for these two teams, the Scudetto race is compromised. Anything can happen, for goodness sake, but it seems to me that Napoli and Inter are travelling at a much higher speed.

“At this point, therefore, both AC Milan and Juve have the obligation to continue their path in the Champions League: it will not be easy, but they have the possibility. It will not be easy, but they have a chance. And then they must at all costs achieve qualification for the next edition of the cup, because this means bringing money into the clubs’ safe.”

“For Milan, the story is a little different. It has made two revolutions in the space of a few months: first with Fonseca and now with Conceiçao. Patience is needed and, above all, the club has a duty to support the work of the new coach.

“Milan, essentially, depends on two players: Leao and Theo Hernandez. When these go, the whole team turns. Otherwise, there is trouble. It’s up to Conceiçao to keep the two on the ball so that we can rise in the standings and achieve Champions League qualification.”
