Ariggo Sacchi believes that it is impossible to determine which AC Milan we will see in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter. If they can be at their best, then we could be in for a good game, as the legendary manager points out.

The season has indeed been filled with ups and downs for Milan, even after Sergio Conceicao took over as well, and it’s very hard to predict the outcome of tonight’s game. Of course, Inter are the clear favourites but the previous two derbies this season have taught us otherwise.

In his latest column for Gazzetta dello Sport, the legendary Milan manager Sacchi discussed the derby and what to expect from Milan. Among other things, he said that you would need to be ‘a magician’ to understand which Rossoneri side will turn up tonight.

“On paper, and according to the logic that has dominated this season so far, there should be no question about the game. Obviously in favour of Inter. I would like to remind you, however, that Milan in its long history has always been able to play the super city challenges at a very high level, even going beyond its limits.

“To succeed, this time, they will need that knowledge, that humility, that spirit of sacrifice and that attention that have been lacking recently. While we’re at it, let’s ask ourselves another question: how will Leao and Theo Hernandez play? I mean: will they be having a good day, and therefore will they represent an added value for the team, or will they dangle along the left flank as has often happened?

“When they have a good day, and are in tune with the rest of the team, they can be devastating for their opponents. The problem is to understand their conditions in advance, and I wouldn’t want to be in Sergio Conceicao’s shoes, who will have to rely on intuition rather than reason.

“Nobody disputes their skill and technical ability, but in football other values also count. To make a prediction on Milan’s performance, it would take a magician. I am not one, but I say that if Milan is able to be Milan, that is, to play as a real team, then the fans will be able to have fun,” he writes.

Kyle Walker will make his debut for the team and the new striker, Santiago Gimenez, will be watching on in the standings. The former certainly knows a thing or two about big derby games and Conceicao will be hoping to benefit from his experience.
