Roma saw their run of seven straight wins come to an end, but super-sub Eldor Shomurodov cancelled out the Manuel Locatelli volley to slow Juventus progress too.
The Giallorossi were on a remarkable run of seven consecutive victories to make this a head-to-head for Europe, but Paulo Dybala, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Saud Abdulhamid, Devyne Rensch and suspended Alexis Saelemaekers missed out. Igor Tudor won his Juve debut, beating Genoa 1-0 after replacing sacked Thiago Motta and changing to a three-man defence, but lost Federico Gatti to injury along with Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, Arek Milik and Mattia Perin, with Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz only fit for the bench.
Mile Svilar got down at full stretch to push away a Tim Weah curler in the opening minutes, as Juve dominated possession in the early stages. However, Roma emerged from their shell and had a huge chance with Artem Dovbyk laying off a through ball for Bryan Cristante, denied by a desperate Pierre Kalulu sliding block from seven yards.
Juventus also went very close, as Weah stood up a cross for the Nico Gonzalez free header, which Svilar acrobatically fingertipped onto the woodwork.
Roma did the same, as Stephan El Shaarawy nodded a Matias Soule cross onto the far post on 37 minutes to even up the score.

It was Juve who eventually broke the deadlock, as Zeki Celik cleared the Kalulu cross only to the edge of the D, where Manuel Locatelli’s volley into the ground bounced into the far bottom corner. That was the first goal conceded by Roma since March 2, followed by three consecutive Serie A clean sheets.

Eldor Shomurodov replaced defender Mats Hummels after the restart, changing the Roma set-up to a 4-4-2, and immediately Kalulu had to intercept the Dovbyk through ball for Shomurodov. On the resulting corner, Michele Di Gregorio parried the Evan N’Dicka header, but could do nothing on the Shomurodov follow-up from point-blank range.
Roma are level! 👊 Di Gregorio saves the initial header from the corner, but he can only push it as far as Shomurodov, who makes no mistake to make it 1-1 from close range! ⚽️ 📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/V39Mvi5OwN — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) April 6, 2025
Dovbyk tested Di Gregorio after a strong run and Svilar used his chest to keep out Wes McKennie at the near post after running onto the Nico Gonzalez through ball.
Kalulu was alert to stop Lucas Gourna-Douath running onto a pass that Dovbyk let go as he was offside, while Kenan Yildiz’s effort was deflected wide.
In the final minutes, McKennie’s strike from the edge of the area was charged down by Angelino after Lloyd Kelly pulled back from the by-line.
