Sheffield United suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at home against Yorkshire rivals Hull City on Friday evening.
The Tigers took the lead in the first half from a stunning counter-attack from a Blades corner which eventually saw Matt Crooks fire the ball into the far corner of the goal on six minutes. Substitute Matty Jacob made it 2-0 just after the hour mark before Harrison Burrows put the ball into his own net with only a few minutes remaining.
Chris Wilder brought new signing Tom Cannon straight into the team and dropped Rhian Brewster to the bench despite scoring in midweek. Ben Brereton Diaz replaced the suspended Gustavo Hamer on the left. Sam McCallum also returned to the starting eleven in place of Rhys Norrington-Davies. Vinicius Souza and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi made the bench.
Blades: Cooper, Gilchrist (Rak-Sakyi 65), McCallum (Souza 55), O’Hare, Burrows, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson, Brereton Diaz (Brewster 55), Cannon, Brooks (Campbell 55), Peck.
Unused: A. Davies, Baptiste, Norrington-Davies, Oné, Blacker.
Hull: Pandur, Jones, McLaughlin, Burns (Jacob 55), Alzate, Drameh, Crooks (Matazo 55), Slater (Puerta 74), Joseph (João Pedro 65), Gelhardt (Burstow 74), Kamara.
Unused: Lo-Tutala, Vaughan, Smith, Amrabat.
The Blades started on the front foot and Brereton Diaz registered an early shot on target when he tried to catch the Hull keeper sleeping at his near post. Following this shot, United piled the pressure on Pandur in goal with a number of corners whipped in on him.
The pressure was all for nothing as Hull counterattacked from a United corner after Peck’s header set the move off. Eventually, the towering midfielder Matt Crooks steamed towards the edge of the United box before slamming his right-footed effort into the far corner inside seven minutes.
Sheffield United failed to create anything of note in the first half apart from two very difficult headed chances for O’Hare of all players in the box.

Wilder’s halftime team talk had an effect on United’s tempo as they began to pop the ball around much quicker. But the home team almost levelled in rather weird circumstances as a header from O’Hare from outside the box looped up and headed towards the crossbar. Pandur took no chances and tipped the ball over.
Brewster, Souza and Campbell were all introduced on 55 minutes, and it looked to have been a stroke of brilliance from Wilder as an onside Brewster flicked the ball down to Tyrese Campbell who raced through on goal and delicately chipped the ball over the keeper into an empty net before the linesman held his flag up despite nobody being offside.
Moments later, Hull City delivered a suckerpunch as they found a second through substitute Matty Jacob steered home a Drameh cross.
The Blades failed to test the away side enough and fans headed for the exits in the 88th minute when Harrison Burrows put the ball into his own net after some good work from Joao Pedro to force the mistake.
Hull were third bottom heading into this game, but you couldn’t have guessed that by looking at the scoreline as the Blades failed to leapfrog Leeds United who play Burnley on Monday night.
