The Owls could poach the soon-to-be ex-boss of their rivals.

It's silly season in the Championship and there's no better representation of it than all the managerial chaos that's playing out in front of our eyes.

There is a realistic chance that a quarter of the managers who went into the last month of the 2024/25 Championship season have left their clubs by the start of next season. Even league-winning Leeds United were reportedly considering sacking their manager Daniel Farke.

The latest axe swinging will be at the MKM Stadium, where Ruben Selles, who helped to save Hull City from relegation, is set to be canned.

At the time of writing, there has been no official announcement of the Spaniard's departure, but it would be a major shock if the previous Reading boss were to stay in his current position.

Hull did the same last summer with Liam Rosenior and it massively backfired.

If they don't want to learn from their mistakes, clubs like RC Strasbourg, who then appointed the 40-year-old, should position themselves to try and benefit from their wild decision-making.

With Selles, it should be Sheffield Wednesday, whose own manager is unlikely to stick around this summer, that capitalise on the Tigers' boneheadedness.

Sheffield Wednesday unlikely to keep Danny Rohl

In April, the Owls came very close to receiving a three-window transfer ban for late payment of their players. They got the wages across just in time to avoid any sanctions.

Ever since then it has felt like their first-team boss, Danny Rohl, has slowly mentally checked out of Hillsborough and has been thinking about a future elsewhere.

TalkSPORT reported that he has decided to leave the club, and the manager stated in a podcast interview that he and Chansiri have agreed on what will come next for the German, however this was then denied by the club. None of his hints have been more glaring than his open statements about wanting a Premier League or Bundesliga move in the future.

Sheffield Wednesday should pounce on Ruben Selles opportunity

Wednesday haven't been linked to any replacements for Rohl, whose contract runs until the summer of 2027, meanwhile he has been linked with the likes of Leicester City, RB Leipzig and Southampton. Hull are in a similar position. They reportedly have no replacement for Selles lined up.

These two factors might combine well for the Owls.

In Selles, they have an EFL-proven, exciting, young boss who has already done well with a club in Reading that is more dysfunctional than Wednesday.

It will be tough to find someone that lives up to the German and all of his amazing qualities, but the Spaniard feels like an obvious option to replace Rohl should he leave.

They wouldn't need to pay any compensation in order to get Selles.

He wouldn't be moving that far to go from one club to another - the two stadiums are around 70 miles from one another.

Wednesday would need to wait for Rohl to be snapped up or leave by his own accord in this scenario, which could leave them vulnerable to someone getting Selles ahead of them, but that's a scenario they should be ready for.
