Women’s Director of Football Therese Sjogran surprised players at a City in the Community’s Emerging Talent session with tickets to Sunday’s WSL clash with Chelsea.

City host the Londoners at the Etihad Stadium in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday 23 March with kick-off set for 14:30 (UK).

It promises to be yet another thrilling showdown between two of English football’s powerhouses, and the third of four successive fixtures involving the sides.

But Sjogran took the time out of her busy schedule to visit an Emerging Talent session and offer some words of wisdom to the next generation of prospective footballers.

The Emerging Talent programme is overseen and delivered by the CITC Citygirls programme, hosting players from Under-11's and Under-13's level.

It’s the highest level of our community pathway for girls' football development and is supported by a range of City girl programs designed to foster growth and participation at every level.

After watching the session, Sjogran chatted with participants about her footballing journey, which includes World Cup and European Championship finals as a player and numerous league titles as a Sporting Director before joining City last year.

The Swede also answered questions from the players, including the experience of representing her country and preparing for big moments in her career.

For Sjogran, though, the importance of the programme goes beyond the pitch.

She said: “The whole programme is so important. I really enjoyed it, and it was nice to meet everyone.

“The fact that we can do it here in City’s colours means the players feel they can come here and train and, if it’s not for them, there are different ways that we can help, which is amazing.

“I spoke to the players about my role, where I’ve come from and my history of playing.”

On the players’ reactions to being surprised with tickets to the Etihad Stadium, Sjogran added: “Of course, the players were really happy, some of them already had tickets!

“I think just to meet them and now they have a face to a name with me and have heard me speak about the women’s programme.

“I hope it was a nice experience for them and they’ll enjoy Sunday.”
