Sky Sports confirms away fan allocation for Glasgow Derby

News has officially broken this afternoon that there will indeed be an end to the away support lock out for the Glasgow Derby. Sky Sports News have confirmed the earlier reports that the clubs had been close to agreeing an end to the away fan exclusion that had been in place for the last eight derby matches between Celtic and theRangers.
It now looks like normal business will resume, after a long time inbetween without any away supporters at either ground. Of course, this all started when the newest Ibrox entity decided to slash Celtic’s allocation during Brendan Rodgers’ first term as Hoops boss, as an incandescent support and boardroom at Ibrox Stadium, could not handle that Odsonne Edouard goal that beat the home side with 10-men, way back in March of 2018.
Since then, the famously large a way allocations were cut to just several hundred or so and had put a dampner on the fixture in the intervening years. When Celtic raised safety concerns after players, staff and supporters were all targeted by the feral home support inside over in Govan, the club vowed that unless our supporters’ safety could be guaranteed, there could be no such promise of a reciprocal allocation.
What made it all the more dangerous was the scarce amount of Celtic supporters housed in a tiny corner of that stadium, looking like sitting ducks awaiting the next attack from the home crowd. The new allocation of four-percent of each club’s full stadium capacity should negate this somewhat. Celtic have even spent money on upgrading the safety around the away support with additional features outside the ground and netting internally too.
Hopefully, this can be the norm again moving forward and there are no more issues which put the safety and security of our fanbase at risk. The next match is of course at Celtic Park on Sunday, 16 March, and the manager will want to make good on that defeat in the earlier fixture at the start of the year.
With an away support there this time, it is crucial we stamp our authority on the second placed team in the country and really drive home to those in attendance our superiority at this moment in time, both on and off the field.
Here is that update from Sky Sports News confirming the end of the away fan lockout…
All the incidents that have occurred during this period have involved assaults by theRangers fans on Celtic players or supporters, there has been no trouble caused by Celtic supporters during these Glasgow Derbies. And all the violence happened at Ibrox, not at Celtic Park or Hampden. Let’s hope that their home venue is at last a safe place for supporters to attend. If not then this new agreement will deservedly be placed in the bin.
