Manchester United hold concrete interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha, as confirmed by Sky Sports reporter Patrick Berger.

Their potential pursuit, however, hinges on whether they can offload players deemed surplus to requirements in the early stages of the window.

Unsurprisingly, Casemiro is a candidate to be sold. His contract runs until 2026, meaning he’ll continue pocketing a reported £350,000 per week until then—unless United can find a suitor this year. The club were reportedly expecting approaches from the Saudi Pro League last summer before nothing materialised, and the Brazilian stayed put.

Christian Eriksen will leave for free when his terms expire at the end of June, which will free up space on the wage list but not provide any funds to add to INEOS’ transfer kitty.

Taking to X/Twitter to verify United’s links to Nmecha, Berger penned: “United are interested in Felix Nmecha and have him on their shortlist, as Bild reported – confirmed! Jason Wilcox, the technical director of United, knows him well from his time as Manchester City’s academy chief.

“However, there has been no contact yet. Borussia Dortmund do not want to sell Nmecha, but if they fail to qualify for a European competition, they may be forced to. Price valuation: €50m+.”

Should he depart at the end of 2024/2025, Nmecha will have spent only one season with the Bundesliga outfit following his move from Wolfsburg last July in a deal worth £25.2 million.

The 24-year-old has since made 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times and assisting a further two goals. He is, however, currently sidelined with a ligament injury and is therefore at risk of missing Dortmund’s crucial Champions League quarter-final clash with Barcelona on April 9; the second leg will take place at Signal Iduna Park the following week on April 15.

Nmecha is a three-capped German international, having last played for his country in two Nations League matches back in November.
