Slot Eyes Swift Start as Liverpool Move Early in Transfer Market

Early Moves to Maintain Momentum

Liverpool are not waiting for the transfer window to creak open before making strides under new head coach Arne Slot. With the Premier League title already sealed with four games to spare, the Anfield hierarchy are matching their on-field urgency in the boardroom, laying the groundwork for another sustained challenge at home and abroad.

The Reds, who will lift the trophy following Sunday’s home clash with FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, are closing in on a series of early deals. Jeremie Frimpong, the dynamic right-back from Bayer Leverkusen, is expected to complete a £30 million move, while discussions are ongoing for a blockbuster £125 million swoop for Florian Wirtz, the Bundesliga’s most exciting young playmaker.

Strategic Targets for Key Roles

Slot’s recruitment drive appears as targeted as it is ambitious. Liverpool are strong favourites to sign £40 million-rated Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, and have already agreed a deal to bring Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia after finalising terms last summer.

These moves suggest a manager focused on ensuring his squad is fully equipped long before pre-season begins. Slot knows all too well the cost of delayed preparations. His experience at Feyenoord, where summer squad rebuilding was hampered by financial constraints, remains fresh in his mind.

Lessons from Rotterdam

“You cannot compare Feyenoord with Liverpool, but we dropped points in the first two games because Feyenoord is different to Liverpool, in a different stage of the pyramid,” Slot explains.

“We had to sell our best players at that moment and it took quite a long time before we got new ones because Feyenoord was in a much more financial difficult position than Liverpool is now.

“So our squad wasn’t ready in the first game of the season.

“I got the players in late, so we dropped points in the first two games, but that had nothing to do with the mentality, but more with us not being ready for the start of the season because of financial reasons.

“That will be different now.”

Preparation Begins at AXA

Liverpool’s squad will regroup in the second week of July at the AXA Training Centre, where Slot will oversee his first pre-season in charge. The Dutchman is determined to avoid the teething problems that undermined his previous title defence. With recruitment moving at speed and a clear plan in place, Slot’s Liverpool look ready to hit the ground running.
