“Sources at Chelsea insist” – Blues fans will be split over Romano’s latest insider report | OneFootball

When it comes to Fabrizio Romano, you always know his sources are good – he has the ear of players, agents, owners and everyone else in the football industry.

What you have to be aware of and always bear in mind is who is giving him any particular piece of information – who benefits from it getting out there? He’s not always telling the truth or always lying, he’s just giving someone’s version of the truth.

Last night his column for GiveMeSport had one very strong focus – backing Enzo Maresca. This piece felt like it was coming directly from those at Chelsea who are aiming to make it very clear that the Italian coach is their man, no matter what happens in the rest of this season.

Some Blues fans were never sure about the appointment, and have been given even more doubts by recent results. Romano’s words are aimed to remove any doubts and try to get even those who doubt Maresca to realise he’s here for the long haul, and it would be better to get behind him than continue hoping he’s dismissed.

Maresca in strong position than Pochettino ever was

Of course, a year ago we heard similar things about manager Mauricio Pochettino, and he was gone at the end of the campaign. But Romano insists it’s all different now:

“Contrary to what happened one year ago with Mauricio Pochettino, this year the feeling at Chelsea is completely different… Owners, directors and players are believed to trust the manager… sources at Chelsea insist on this point: Maresca is untouchable, a key part of the project with the club very happy to continue with him, no matter what happens in the final months.”

We’ve always believed that Maresca’s job is exceptionally safe, if only because the people in charge of sacking him would hurt their own position by doing so.
