Southampton fans have been reacting to Saturday’s match at St Mary’s.

The home side taking a tenth minute lead against the run of play.

However, that swiftly rectified, United 2-1 up after half an hour and then on 51 minutes a stunning tam move capped off by Tonali’s cool finish.

Enjoying reading the comments from Southampton fans below.

A few normal voices of reason but so so many going down the conspiracy theory and how ‘disgraceful’ VAR and match officials in general have ‘cheated’ them…

Southampton fans commenting via their Saints Web message board:

‘Sooner we’re out of this oil money corrupt VAR infested league the better.’

‘That is about the worst decision I have ever seen. VAR is an absolute disgrace and has no place in football.

Never in a million years was that a penalty.’

‘We got totally robbed by VAR. After all we were one up before it intervened. Obviously the third goal we shouldn’t be so wide open, was totally avoidable.’

‘Do you honestly think we would’ve held on to that lead if the pen wasn’t given?

Newcastle passed through us with ease and clearly took their foot of the gas second half. They also hit the post twice. There was absolutely no scenario where we were not losing that.’

‘So looking forward to not having to deal with var.

A really tough task made impossible by a system desperate to award them a goal.’

‘We really are going to fail to get another point, finishing on 6 points!!! ‘ ‘We either get thrashed by oppo or done by VAR/ref.

No wonder the players have thrown in the towel. If we score they find a way to disallow it.’

‘Half wishing we’d take the 6 points and just end the season now. Getting more embarrassing every game.’

‘How can the defence be so incompetent to allow Tonali to run through like that? Will Juric never learn the current formation isn’t working? ‘

‘Like a hot knife through butter. Pathetic.’

‘Totally switched off, but that’s the difference – slow walking football versus dynamic fast flowing Newcastle passing.’

‘Newcastle running around more in the 90th minute than we did in the first half.’

‘Yet more points we’ve been cheated of by the utterly worthless officiating.’

‘You really think we would have got anything anyway?’

‘We simply are not a premier league club now, we have nowhere near the resources and we’ve just played a club owned by a rich country.’

‘Thought that was a decent display against a very good team. Next week is going to be the big test.

i’d still like us to look to get the ball into the box more.

would love to see how the game would have enfolded if they hadn’t been awarded that disgraceful penalty by var.’

‘That and the disallowed goal.’

‘Stop blaming VAR, Refs and Managers, this squad is shi.. Recruiting and board should take all the responsibility along with poor players. We clearly don’t belong in the top league. Can’t have 4-5 Premier League level players and still hope to do well. ‘

‘The squad can be bad and it can still be VAR’s fault, two things aren’t mutually exclusive. The pen was a disgrace.’

‘Problem is we play some good football and then basically let them run through and easily score time and time again. So all the morale boosting hard work is wasted.

Got to sort the defence or it’s going to keep happening.’

‘We aren’t bottom with record low points because the world is against us. We have much bigger issues.’

‘The Geordies really don’t like it when you mention the sports washing. The absolute worst.’

‘We were never going to beat Newcastle playing walking football.

The amount of times we go sideways and backwards is infuriating.

The most exciting thing today was the fight that broke out in my block (5). I saw a punch thrown that my 90 year old mother-in-law could have stood up to.’

‘If the penalty not given I think we would have had a bit of luck along the way whilst battling hard and digging in. We had something to hold onto.’

‘We haven’t done that once this season. I’m all for being optimistic but we are so sh.. that to suggest we would’ve got anything from that is deluded. No offence!’

‘Like all those other times when we’ve had something to hold onto in a game?’

‘I don’t know why we’re even having this discussion, it was a stonewall penalty. The ref just didn’t have a good enough view of it initially.’

‘We were never going to beat Newcastle playing football.’

‘Bournemouth with a 12000 seat stadium aren’t playing the victims card ‘we can’t compete with Saudi-backed Newcastle’. They thumped them at home last week and FFP limits their spending anyway.’

‘I’ve never known it be easier to be a Saints fan – the absolute certainty of the same result every single game.’

‘It’s the easiest money I’ve ever made gambling. This season alone so far has paid for my holiday next month.

Couldn’t give less of a toss if people think you shouldn’t bet against your club.

I’d sure as hell rather be making money for me and the family.’

‘The game reminded of when we played Rotherham away last season, around the same time I think.

We won 2-0 and we weren’t brilliant and they weren’t awful, but we were just better than them.

Same as today basically, just beaten by a better team.’

‘Another ghastly defeat, lots of dejected people walking away this evening.

Just relegate us now shouted someone near us. I agree please just make it stop.

Newcastle simply played effective give and go tactics against our lumbering midfield.’

‘With VAR the time taken is not “pondering over decisions. It’s in try to get the technology set up so as to take those decisions and that is the same no matter who is making them. On the actual pitch decisions are taken almost instantly and are no less accurate than those of VAR.

I have consistently maintained that the view on TV is distorted and less precise than that of someone who sees things close up and live. I have seen nothing to change my point of view.’

‘Fake friendly Geordies who quickly forget it was they who sank to the bottom before the sheikh oil oligarchs offered them a route to top flight competieness,I remember them taking smaller ticket allocation and us turning them over 4-0 , now they try to sing about empty seats in last few minutes.’

‘Newcastle have been more limited in what they can spend by FFP and Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton don’t have Saudi backing. Much as I detest Stockley Park the main reason we are hating this season is that Sports Republic have completely destroyed anything and everything we valued about SFC, which was already hollowed out under Gao.’

‘Obvious penalty btw, cant honestly believe any of you really think otherwise.’

‘Lets not turn ourselves into Arsenal. Aribo has jumped in, caught the player and not the ball, it’s a textbook penalty.’

‘His shirt was being pulled as he tried to make the tackle. That’s why it was mistimed. Or do you think that shirt pulling is not a foul in itself?’

‘I don’t have the words for this level of thinking. You don’t have to over think this one just because you’re a Saints fan and it’s gone against you. If you see someone make a bad tackle, it’s a bad tackle. Shirts are pulled hundreds of times a game, not all of them end with a mistimed tackle.’

‘Lol you sure? No chance we’d get given that up there. We’ve been had over many a time this season. Hopefully someone can do a compilation. The players can’t be bothered to get on at the officials bias sadly.’

‘Nor words for this level of conspiracy either. Yes, we’ve had bad decisions against us, everyone has, it’s annoying but none of those bad decisions mean that Joe Aribo making a mistimed challenge on Isak isn’t a foul.’

‘I said it was a penalty in the ground as it happened. The two qualified refs who have viewed it on video have said it’s a penalty. Joe Aribo didn’t looked particularly perplexed when it was given as a penalty and nor did he seem to be arguing he’d been pulled down at any stage. I’ve watched it again earlier and on MOTD and confirmed my original thought that Aribo, shirt being held or not, actively makes a decision to make a tackle and does not get the ball. ‘

‘Just had another look, you’re wrong mate, the pundit on the clip said ‘ridiculous decision’.

Like I said, no way we’d get that up there. And no, not everyone gets robbed like we do weekly. We’re struggling but a level playing field on the officiating would be a bonus. Our players are too much like you sadly and accept this sh…’

‘Haha you and that pundit keep fighting the good fight mate. Don’t let us lowly little losers bring you down by using our eyes. You’re on a whole different level to everyone else and one day you can educate us all on the referees deliberate attempt to officiate the mighty Saints on an unlevel playing field. We’ll all bow down to your knowledge one day and we’ll all unsee Aribo quite clearly catching Isak and not getting the ball.’

‘Watching Motd I’m afraid it was a penalty in the current climate of big money football . A soft one but no ball contact and some foot contact so as it’s not the Chopper Harris or Norman bites your legs era a penalty it is.

Apart from that Saints looked better but Newcastle were very good going forward.’

‘I went out for a walk in the forest with my family yesterday and missed the game entirely despite being offered a ticket. Best decision I made this week.’
