According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Italy coach Luciano Spalletti has spoken directly to Inter boss Simone Inzaghi to clear the air after a public row.

The issue erupted when Inzaghi confessed in a deposition to the public prosecutor that he had spoken to arrested Inter ultras leader Marco Ferdico on the phone.

He insisted that it was merely a request for more tickets to the 2023 Champions League Final against Manchester City and that there had not been any threats or intimidation.

Inzaghi and Spalletti tension over ultras situation

Spalletti responded by making comments in public that were seen as an attack on Inter, who along with Milan are seeing their rapport with the often shady world of the ultras under investigation.

“It never happened that someone called me for these matters, it’s a piece of news that surprised me, because you don’t know what the relationship was like before,” said Spalletti.

“If someone calls you, you don’t know him, you never had anything to do with him, I think it’s difficult to exchange words.

“I answer to everyone, even to the numbers I don’t know, but I can also hang up then.”

Inzaghi and Inter saw this as a personal attack on their judgment, but La Gazzetta dello Sport insists that today Spalletti spoke personally to the coach and reassured it was a general response rather than specifically about him.

It is by no means unusual for players and coaches in Italian football to have contact with members of the ultras.
