Eintracht Frankfurt’s first-choice goalkeeper Kevin Trapp will miss his side’s crucial Europe League quarter-final first-leg clash against Tottenham on Thursday.
Trapp was due to be back in goal for Frankfurt’s last Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen, but before the game manager Dino Toppmöller said: “Kevin noticed yesterday, during games on the full-size pitch, that he’s still having problems. Therefore, he’s out for the time being in Bremen. Kauã will be back in goal.”
Since replacement goalkeeper Kaua has stepped in, however, he won the man of the match award in two of the four games he has played.
Trapp has not been included in Frankfurt’s squad list for the first-leg against Spurs and has been replaced by Jens Grahl, thought Trapp is expected to return for the second leg.
Frankfurt also go into the game in poor form, having lost four of the last six Bundesliga games including a 2-0 loss to Werder Bremen in their last match.
Spurs are also set to be without some key players for the first leg, however. Dejan Kulusevski, who has been out since February, is still a “couple of weeks away” from a return, according to boss Ange Postecoglou.
The Swede may be ready for the second-leg of the Europa League tie against the Germans, however, while defender Kevin Danso is also nearing a return.
“Kevin and Deki are working hard still, they’re probably a couple of weeks away, but both are progressing well,” Postecoglou said last week.
Spurs’ squad is almost at full strength, after what has been a turbulent season with injuries.
Postecoglou suggested Richarlison could feature against Frankfurt having returned to the bench in the win over Southampton.
Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie are also likely to return to the starting 11 after being rested in their most recent outing.
The Europa League poses a good chance for Spurs to end a disastrous season on a high. Despite being 14th in the league, a trophy win would make this the club’s best season since 2008.
