With Carlo Ancelotti officially announced as the new manager of the Brazilian national team, Real Madrid are headed for a major change on the sidelines in the coming days.

Winning none of the three long-format competitions of the season, after all, is a blemish on the club’s legacy and is largely considered unforgivable.

That, coupled with the team’s lack of direction, continual defeats in El Clasico and inconsistent performances, have Xabi Alonso placed as the candidate to take over as the team’s new coach.

Tebas’ thoughts on the appointment

Speaking to the media (h/t SPORT), La Liga president Javier Tebas gave his two cents on Real Madrid’s highly speculated managerial candidate and expressed his happiness over the legend’s return to Spain.

“Real Madrid believe that Xabi Alonso is the best option for them, and I am happy for him, happy that he is returning to Spanish football and returning to a big club, to his club.”

“It seems very good to me, these are the club’s decisions,” he added, acknowledging it as the right move for Los Blancos.

Elaborating on why he rated the Real Madrid legend so highly, Tebas said,

“I like the arrival of world-class players and coaches, and Xabi Alonso is one of them. Winning the league with Leverkusen against Bayern Munich is not easy.”

As it stands, Alonso is expected to take charge of Real Madrid early next month before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup and will thus see his first tournament as the club’s manager in this very season.

The Merengues, meanwhile, are working around the clock to secure the signings he demands as part of his project so as to ensure he has all the favourable conditions required to succeed.
