Belgium national team head coach Domenico Tedesco has revealed that Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku is a doubt for the Serie A match against Roma next weekend, as he is not expected to train for the next few days after an injury issue cropped up on international duty.
Lukaku returned to the Belgium squad for the first time this season for November’s Nations League fixtures, and played the full 90 minutes against Italy as Luciano Spalletti’s side picked up a 1-0 win in Brussels on Thursday night.
Tedesco has announced, however, that the 31-year-old felt an issue in his knee and has since left the Belgium camp as a result.
Lukaku reportedly needed an injection for the pain in his knee and is not expected to be able to train for the next four or five days, which puts him at risk of missing the Serie A match between Napoli and Roma next weekend.
“He has a problem with his knee, he needed an injection,” Tedesco said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Belgium’s game against Israel on Sunday.
“He felt the problem after Italy. Romelu won’t be able to train or play for four or five days,” the Italian-German coach confirmed.
