The top two meet in the Bundesliga! FC Bayern visit Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday (18:30 CET) in a top-of-the-table clash, hoping to extend their lead over the second-placed Werkself and take a big step towards reclaiming the title. Read on to find out which facts point to Bayern ending their run of five competitive meetings without a win against Bayer 04.
Bayern head to Leverkusen on a seven-match winning run in the Bundesliga, their longest run since 2020, when FCB collected a whopping 14 consecutive victories between February and September.
Bayern comfortably beat Werder Bremen 3-0 at the Allianz Arena last weekend.
Bayern are eight points ahead of Leverkusen in second going into Saturday's clash. Since the introduction of the three-point rule, the Bundesliga leaders have never squandered such a big advantage after 21 matchdays.
Bayern are enjoying their best Bundesliga campaign for nine years with 54 points. Only in the 2015/16 (56) and 2013/14 (59) seasons did the Munich men have more points after 21 matches. Leverkusen are also in good form, though. With 46 points, Xabi Alonso's side are having their second-best ever Bundesliga season, bettered only by last year (55 points).
Harry Kane converted two penalties against Bremen and is now on nine penalty goals in the current Bundesliga season.
The German record champions currently boast the best attack in the Bundesliga with 65 goals scored, with Leverkusen in second place on 49. The Werkself have also scored the most goals in the opening 15 minutes (10) and in the first half (30) in the German top flight, while Bayern have found the net in the final quarter of an hour (14) and in the second half (37) more often than anyone else.
Last weekend, Harry Kane becam the first player in 25 years to register nine penalty goals in a Bundesliga season. Hans-Jörg Butt, who incidentally played for both clubs, was the last man to do that in the 1999/2000 campaign. Only Paul Breitner netted more times from spot-kicks (10) in the 1980/81 campaign. Kane has scored a further 12 goals from open play, a joint league high with Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick.
