“The part I didn’t like…” – Chelsea went against Maresca’s instructions in Fulham defeat | OneFootball

Enzo Maresca has just had his press conference following a home defeat to Fulham, where he was asked about how frustrated he was by a game which his side had been leading until the 85th minute.

The Italian coach admitted he wasn’t happy, and picked out one period of the game where he thought his side could have killed the game off:

“Yes, there is some frustration, especially for the way we conceded the goal at the end. It’s a bad feeling, also because I’ve said many times, when you can’t win it’s important you don’t lose.

“I think the first 15 or 20 minutes of the second half was the part I didn’t like, because we conceded too many transitions and we knew they are a team building from transitions, with [Alex] Iwobi, Adama [Traore], [Antonee] Robinson and [Raul] Jimenez,” the coach continued.

Maresca still finds positives in chances that could have won the game

Maresca even managed to find some positives in the performance, which we saw as pretty lifeless despite the chances he mentions:

“In the first half I felt we controlled that very well, we scored and created chances,” the manager said.

“Then in the second half I think we gave them too much energy in the first 15 or 20 minutes. Even when they’d equalised we had some good chances, with Marc [Cucurella] and Jadon [Sancho], but it was a shame.”

He’s right that Fulham had too much energy for Chelsea – but who does he want to blame for that? He made one change to the team that looked tired in the draw with Everton – and then made ONE sub in the game. At the time Fulham scored their two, they had made 4.

What did he expect?
