Kylian Mbappé’s start at Real Madrid has had its challenges. The former Paris Saint-Germain star has faced some rough patches, with mixed reviews on his performances so far.
Despite solid numbers—eight goals and two assists in 14 matches in all competitions—he hasn’t yet fully adapted to Real Madrid’s playing style. His first El Clásico was a tough one, as Real Madrid lost 4-0 to Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26.
The struggles continued on Tuesday night, with Real Madrid falling 3-1 to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League. This marked back-to-back home losses with a combined score of 7-1, and in both matches, PSG’s all-time leading scorer found it hard to make a significant impact.

While analyzing for CBS Sports, Thierry Henry was quite critical of Mbappé’s work rate when he led the line for Real Madrid.
“It is Bellingham who behaves more like a No. 9, making the runs, and trying to make the team play. He never runs.” Henry said (h/t Get French Football News).“It’s not good enough. One thing that was spoken about is how will Ancelotti balance the team. Rodrygo gave the team balance.”
Amid all the criticism, SPORT has reported that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner isn’t interested in playing as a No. 9 for Real Madrid. He’d rather stick to his usual role on the left, which is currently Vinicius Junior’s spot. As a result, it puts the Spanish side in a difficult situation.
