As was also the case in 2023/24, AC Milan and Lazio will meet on matchday 27 in Serie A this season. This time around, however, the clash between the Rossoneri and Biancocelesti will take place at San Siro. As the game draws nearer, we're turning on our Time Machine again to relive a previous encounter between the sides, more specifically the match that took place on 18 October 1992. That fixture was played on matchday 6, and Capello's side went into it without three important players: Evani, Eranio and Rijkaard. The Diavolo were in fantastic form having recorded four consecutive victories - against Foggia, Pescara, Atalanta and Fiorentina - where they'd racked up 15 goals in total. The Rossoneri's midfield consisted of Donadoni, Albertini and Gullit, with van Basten, Papin and Gianluigi Lentini lining up in attack.

The opening to the match was intense and full of chances, and AC Milan found themselves two to the good after a quarter of an hour. Gullit volleyed home in the 13th minute, before Papin got the better of the outrushing Fiori a minute later to double the Rossoneri's advantage. Winter pulled one back in the 21st minute, but the Diavolo restored their two-goal lead thanks to a 35th-minute penalty from van Basten. After four goals in the opening 45 minutes, the same number arrived after the restart, providing the San Siro crowd with real entertainment. Capello's men were always ready to respond to the Biancocelesti's comeback efforts. Fuser reduced the arrears after 52 minutes, but van Basten once again converted from the spot to bag his eighth goal since the start of that campaign. The visitors scored again in the 65th minute - this time through Signori - but a goal from Simone, on as a substitute, put the game to bed with 80 minutes on the clock. The Rossoneri thus extended their unbeaten league streak to 40 matches, equalling the then-record held by Fiorentina.
