Mexico ties Canada in winning records

By lifting the trophy on Sunday, and winning the tournament for the first time, Mexico reached a record of 12 wins at the Concacaf Nations League, tying with Canada to share the third place of all-time most victories in the competition’s history.

Caribbean and Central American sides Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico sit in second place with 13 wins. The United States and Guadeloupe share the top of the table with 15 wins.

Cecilio Waterman's goal and celebration gives Panama third win over USA in last three official matches

Cecilio Waterman scored the match-winning goal in the 90+4’ as Panama defeated the United States in the semifinals. Waterman’s celebration with his childhood idol, soccer legend Thierry Henry, went viral worldwide as one of the feel-good moments of the CNL Finals.

The victory marked a second consecutive occasion where Panama eliminated the USA in the semifinals of a Concacaf tournament, previously doing so on penalties at the 2023 Gold Cup. Los Canaleros also defeated the U.S. in the group stage of the 2024 Copa América, making for three consecutive official matches where Panama has been victorious over The Stars and Stripes.

Jiménez reaches new heights with Mexico

Raúl Jiménez was named the Best Player of the tournament after scoring consecutive braces in the CNL Finals. His match-winning penalty in stoppage time gave Mexico its first Concacaf Nations League title. Jiménez also surpassed the legendary Cuauhtémoc Blanco to reach third place among the nation’s all-time scorers.

He also became the Mexican player with most penalties scored, reaching 15  to surpass Alberto García Aspe's 14-goal mark.

Katia García gets her name in the Nations League history books

Adding to her extensive international experience, including refereeing the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship, the 2024 W Gold Cup, and the 2024 Paris Olympic games, Mexican referee Katia García reached another milestone by becoming the first woman to officiate the Third Place match at the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals.

Mexican referee Katia García reached another milestone by becoming the first woman to officiate the Third Place match at the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals.

Joining her in the Nations League history books were colleagues Sandra Ramírez (assistant referee 1), Karen Díaz (assistant referee 2), and Dianne Ferreira-James of Bahamas (referee assessor).

Canada seals a historic triumph against the United States

In a North American battle for the CNL third place, Canada secured its first Bronze medal in the competition with a 2-1 win against the United States.

It marked the first victory for The Reds in the U.S. for the first time since the 1957 World Cup qualifiers and ended a 14-match winless streak in Concacaf competitions on U.S. soil for the Canadians. It also marked the first time The Canucks came on top in a knockout series over the United States.
