A rough performance from Barcelona saw them still manage to defeat Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano. Out of nowhere, the Catalan giants managed to mount a heroic comeback away from home. With this win, Barcelona find themselves in a comfortable position in La Liga.
Ultimately, a 4-2 win saw La Blaugrana come back from being 2-0 down to winning the game in the second half. Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres were enough to ensure that Barcelona won against Atletico Madrid.
Here are the player ratings for Hansi Flick’s men.
Player Ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny: 7.5
Did everything in his power to keep Barcelona in the game, even making some big saves. Unfortunately, he could not do much about the goals that he did end up conceding. However, his performance was still top tier.
Jules Kounde: 5.5
Not an ideal performance, and he was way too sluggish than Hansi Flick would have liked. For that reason, even the Frenchman ended up coming off for Ronald Araujo in the second half. His positioning was not ideal either, and it cost Barcelona in this game.
Pau Cubarsi: 7.0
Not as impactful to the game’s result as his partner in the defense, but Pau Cubarsi held his own as well. The Spaniard was keen to play out from the back, and found some good positions as well from there.
Inigo Martinez: 8.0
When the entire team seemed frustrated, Inigo Martinez helped create magic. That assist for Robert Lewandowski’s goal in this game came out of nowhere, and he went past multiple Atletico Madrid players before crossing the ball to Lewandowski.
Alejandro Balde: 5.0
Lethargic today and rarely ever on the same wavelength as his teammates. His positioning was awful, and it allowed Atletico Madrid to constantly attack that flank and get past him with ease. Poor performance offensively as well.
Marc Casado: 7.5
Energetic in the midfield, but clearly struggled at times as well. Made some good tackles and kept running no matter what, but ultimately changes were necessary to bring a cutting edge to the team’s progression.
Pedri: 8.0
Not his best game, and Pedri genuinely seemed to be contained quite well by Atletico Madrid. However, he maintained composure in the middle of the pitch and helped orchestrate the comeback for Barcelona in the second half, even grabbing a fortunate assist for Lamine Yamal’s goal. Moreover, he created a bunch of great chances that others failed to convert.
Lamine Yamal: 7.5
The boy wonder was kept at bay for most of the game, and there was little he could do about it. However, as the game went on, Lamine Yamal continued to grow into it. Near the death, he even managed to grab a dramatic late winning goal.
Dani Olmo: 6.5
Clever in between the tight spaces over in the centre of the pitch, Dani Olmo was one of the only bright spots for Barcelona. However, Hansi Flick decided to change things up and he was one of the first players to leave the pitch.
Raphinha: 8.0
Looked quiet for most of the game, Raphinha came to life in the second half. His assist for the goal scored by Ferran Torres was sublime, and it came out of absolutely nothing. Even after that, he kept running both front and back to make sure Barça stayed in the game.
Robert Lewandowski: 6.5
At this point, there is simply no defending the Polish striker’s incompetence in front of goal. He is clearly no longer the lethal striker he once was, and it may finally be time for Hansi Flick to consider other options as he is simply not delivering in any department. However, in a moment of pure magic, the Polish ace did score a beautiful goal to help Barcelona start their comeback.
Substitutes:
Ferran Torres: 9.0
What a brilliant substitution from Hansi Flick, as Ferran Torres was a proper super sub for the Catalan giants. The Spaniard’s introduction brought life to the game on that left flank, and he managed to score a compelling brace as well.
Eric Garcia: 6.0
Sloppy at times, despite making some good interventions. However, his game was a hit and miss with almost every action he took.
Gerard Martin: 6.5
Was much more composed on the left flank compared to Alejandro Balde, and was defensively solid as well. Good outing for him.
Gave Barcelona some much needed physicality and speed at the back, and Ronald Araujo’s introduction brought some confidence back into the team as well.
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
