It comes after former USA international, Tony Meola, scrutinised the Celtic centre-back by bizarrely questioning who he was, in what has become something of regular theme when it comes to the Hoops defender.
Meola was a star for the US at the World Cup’s in 1990, 1994 and 2002, as well as winning two CONCACAF Gold Cups with his country along the way too. He also appeared 100 times for his country over the years and is somewhat of a legendary figure in American football (soccer), although he was excoriating of Cameron Carter-Vickers and not for the first time when the Celtic player’s name has come up in conversation.

When talking about Cam, in discussion about the squad manager Mauricio Pochettino has to work with and who he should choose, the American said to CBS Sports: “How are we defining Gold Cup guys. Don’t you think that he (Pochettino) is going to call everybody that is available now, based on what happened in the Nations League? That would be my only question.
“We’ve still got to see more centre-backs. Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is he? I didn’t necessarily like what I saw against Canada. If we think about Mark McKenzie, if we split him in those two categories (Gold Cup and World Cup). He is a World Cup guy right now. Pochettino believes in him. Chris Richards, as much as I don’t think he has played well in a national team jersey, he has done well at club level, so throw him in.”

His previous remarks about Carter-Vickers following a defeat to Canada were less than impressive too, saying: “Across the backline, Anthony Robinson is the only one I give a grade to in this match to be honest (Scottish Sun). Cameron Carter-Vickers – whatever that lowest grade is we want to give a player, he was poor in the game and almost cost the U.S. before.”

The totally undeserved Carter-Vickers pile on continues! At least he’s treasured at Paradise, something he’s not really had before and may not get again in football. It’s such as special place. Ask the likes of Kyogo and many others who realised that too late.
