What's left to play for in the WSL?

The final weekend of the WSL season is upon us with top and bottom of the league already confirmed but there are still places left to play for.

Sonia Bompastor's undefeated Chelsea already clinched the title and they will host a sixth-placed Liverpool team who can't realistically overtake Brighton & Hove Albion but need to look behind them at the chasing pack.

With the FA Cup final coming up for Chelsea, the Reds will be hoping they can prevent an undefeated league season and ensure a top half finish.

Just below Chelsea in the table is second-place Arsenal who host third-place Manchester United. The Gunners only need to avoid defeat to keep their spot in the top two while, like Chelsea, United may have an eye on Wembley.

With Arsenal and Man Utd both guaranteed a Champions League qualifying spot, Manchester City will finish fourth regardless of what happens but as they host relegated Crystal Palace they can expect to add to their total points tally.

Brighton meanwhile are virtually secure in fifth unless there's an incredibly unlikely goal swing, their opponents Aston Villa (in ninth on 22 points) will be hoping to jump further up the table.

Indeed, just ahead of Villa are Everton (eight on 23 points and at home to Tottenham Hotspur) and West Ham United (seventh and also on 23 points while travelling to Leicester City).

That middle-table battle includes some of the teams who have improved as the season has gone on and those teams will be keen to use a higher position to push on for next year – one that could be even more competitive with London City Lionesses set to join the league.
