Paul Scholes believes Manchester United had the wrong approach on Saturday despite salvaging a later draw at Everton.

The Red Devils had a disastrous first half at Goodison Park, as a series of comical defensive blunders allowed the home side to head towards the halftime break with a healthy two-goal cushion.

Nevertheless, the visitors somehow managed to find their footing late in the contest, mounting a comeback that earned them a point, ensuring they don’t return home empty-handed. Bruno Fernandes started the uprising with a clever freekick while Manuel Ugarte bagged the equalises with an astonishing volley.

However, Scholes wasn’t impressed with this showing, and not even the influential Bruno escaped his chastising. The legendary Man Utd midfielder recalled how Goodison Park had always been a raucous, hostile ground for the Red Devils.

Therefore, the 50-year-old believes the key to securing an away victory against the Toffees is to absorb the early pressure and allow them to punch themselves out of the match before launching a late onslaught, something that Ruben Amorim’s men failed to do since they were already trailing by 2-0 when the home side physically collapsed.

“When we talk about the last 20 minutes were really good and shown bit braveness. We’ve seen this before and people rave about the last 20 minutes. oh yeah do a brilliant show, great Character, but you’ve got to do that in the first minutes,” said Scholes on The Overlap Fan Debate.

“Everton in the good old was hostile. The players had the crowds on top of them. So where are you then? where’s Bruno Fernandes then? That’s when you win your games of football because you get to 60 minutes and you know Everton have flown about everywhere they’ve got to be wrecked, they’re going to be knackered.

“So even if you just keep it nil0-nil by being brave and keeping possession away then maybe you can score a goal in the last half an hour. That’s when you win the game as you’ve shown but they haven’t got the balls to do that in the first 20 minutes.”
