Davide Massa has received criticism for his decision not to award Como a penalty against Inter Milan in yesterday’s Serie A clash.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, question why Federico Dimarco’s handball didn’t warrant a penalty if that of Yann Bisseck the previous week did.

Como wanted a penalty early in the second half of yesterday’s Serie A clash at the San Siro.

The Lariani may have been down a man. However, they were pushing for a response right after halftime, playing the ball around Inter’s penalty area.

A shot from Nico Paz made contact with the arm of Inter wingback Federico Dimarco.

Therefore, the Como players appealed to referee Davide Massa for a spot kick.

However, the referee waved these appeals away. He evidently felt that there had not been a deliberate handball by Dimarco.

In the view of the Corriere, however, Dimarco’s handball was punishable.

The Italian international’s arm was away from his body. And if anything he was moving his arm out, making his body larger.

This was exactly the offense for which Lazio received a penalty in the dramatic finale of their match against Inter last weekend.

Therefore, the Corriere question why it was a penalty then – but not yesterday.
