Matters between Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr. have not been all rosy in recent weeks, especially after the player turned down the club’s first proposal to renew his contract.

The Brazilian star, amidst serious interest from Saudi Arabia and PSG, held out for better terms but that did not move Florentino Perez and Co. who stood firm that they would not budge.

Just when it appeared that the two parties had reached a standstill, ESPN now reveal that Vinicius’ camp appeared to have made progress.

Renewal terms

As relayed by the outlet, Vinicius’ agents have already informed Real Madrid of the amount the player wants to receive to renew his contract and hope to hold a meeting with the club representatives in the coming days.

Further, the source adds that the Brazilian is closer to renewing his deal in Madrid than moving to Saudi Arabia in what comes as massive news for Carlo Ancelotti and Co.

Interestingly, the outlet did not relay the exact figure that Vinicius wishes to earn at the club. It is, however, higher than the salaries of both Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham and will thus place the Brazilian as the highest-paid player at the club.

The meeting in the coming days will be critical in deciding the future of the star winger, but it is clear that it will require Florentino Perez to bend to Vinicius’ terms if he wishes to retain his star.

After all, he has a very lucrative offer on the table from Saudi Arabia that many consider difficult to turn down.

So far this season, Vinicius has scored eight goals and provided five assists for Los Blancos in La Liga and has a further seven goals and two assists in the UEFA Champions League.
