Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has warned the Reds that they should not make the mistake of going to the Emirates Stadium at the weekend with a game plan to sit back against Arsenal.

Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the weekend, but their defensive approach has been subject to criticism.

Now at the weekend, Slot will take his team to north London to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who are keen on bouncing back after their defeat in the previous match against Bournemouth.

Nicol stated that he found Slot’s defensive approach against Chelsea very worrisome and added that he will be shocked if he sees Liverpool changing their approach against Arsenal.

He issued a warning to Liverpool that they will not get a favourable result at the weekend if they decide to sit back against Arsenal and let them have the ball like they did against Chelsea.

“The worrying thing for me is that this is probably the biggest game of the season for Liverpool at Anfield and the way he went about it is to sit, that worries me because I will be shocked if they do not do the same against Arsenal”, Nicol said on ESPN.

“You are not telling me they are going to go away from home in an even bigger game and decide to get after and close the ball down early; that is not happening.

“So he has to thank his lucky stars that they won this game, but he has to look at it and figure out if you are going to go to Arsenal and sit, there has to be a confrontation with a man on the ball at a certain point.

“You cannot just stand back and let Arsenal do what Chelsea did today because the back four was overworked, but it did its job, and that is why Kelleher did not have much to do.”

Liverpool failed to win their last Premier League encounter with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and all eyes will be on Slot to see whether he will come up with a plan to keep them top of the table.
