Leverkusen expect and want Xabi Alonso to stay beyond the summer and are keen to extend his contract beyond 2026 to avoid the risk of losing him on a free next year.

Alonso has been heavily linked with Real Madrid, with reports suggesting he could be Carlo Ancelotti's successor in the Spanish capital.

Ancelotti, like Alonso, is out of contract in 2026.
