While the winter transfer window is closed in Europe, it is still open in Brazil, and FC Barcelona can still see themselves being involved in a transfer move in the coming few days.

This is the case as the Brazilian side Palmeiras is looking to sign the striker Vitor Roque, who is owned by the Blaugranes but who is currently playing on loan at Real Betis.

While his time at the Seville club has not entirely been bad, there are some concerns about his future as some recent changes in the Verdiblanco squad can see Roque’s importance decline.

But their interest in the player is quite real, as SPORT reports that their President, Leila Pereira, herself admitted in a recent interview with a Brazilian television channel.

Talking about her side’s interest in Roque, Pereira said:

“If it were up to me, if I could decide, yes, I would sign him. However, this is a matter that is not solely within my competence. The situation depends on other clubs, his agent, and the player himself; it’s not just up to me. Because if I were truly the only one deciding… I would guarantee it. But since it involves third parties, I can’t say for sure that it will happen.”

Further commenting on the matter, she said:

“There is no point in signing players just for the sake of it; we need top-level players who can contribute to our squad. Sometimes, the market is very difficult. When you find the right player, the club may not release him, or sometimes the player doesn’t want to return to Brazil. It’s not as simple as the fans might think, but I am always looking for the best for Palmeiras.”

The market closes in Brazil on 28th February, and Barcelona fans will be keeping a close eye on this operation as it can allow the Blaugranes to cut their losses with a player whom they are not counting on for the future.
